Preschool (K-4) Aftercare Care Program
The BCA Pre-K After School Program is offered to those children who have the need to stay on campus after 12:00 noon until 3:00p.m.Monday through Thursday, with the exception of BCA early dismissals. Teachers, hired specifically for this program, will be staffing it. The purpose of the program is to serve as an alternative to neighboring daycare by providing a safe, fun, Christ-centered, exploratory, learning environment in order that the student may have opportunities to experience the world that God has created and placed them in.
The daily schedule will include lunch, devotional & discussion time, reading & relaxation time, arts & crafts, center activities, hands-on learning activities, games and recess.
Lunchtime-Monday thru Thursday, children may bring their lunch or participate in the Bridgeway Food Services hot lunch program (start date yet to be determined). On Monday, the student will need to bring a packed lunch. Milk or juice may be purchased in the cafeteria. Using good manners, being considerate of others and cleanliness is emphasized during this time.
Devotional & Discussion Time-We will focus daily on a portion of God’s Word with a story for life application. A discussion time will also be provided to encourage the children to express their feelings toward the characters and how they would react in a similar situation. This activity will expand the children’s vocabulary, listening skills and attention span, as well as encourage critical thinking.
Reading & Relaxation-There will be a daily 20-minute time period when the students will be encouraged to spend time reading and relaxing independently.
Arts & Crafts-A variety of materials will be available to the children to create as they wish. Some of the projects will be teacher directed and many will be child directed. The emphasis of these projects will be the process, not the finished product. These activities will encourage the children to use their creativity and imagination.
Hands-on Learning Activities-There will be opportunities provided on a regular basis for the students to experience different aspects of life around them. (i.e. simple machines, cooking projects, tactile experiences, etc.)
Center Activities-Thematic centers will be used in the classroom on a rotating basis.
Recess-Outdoor time and activities will be held as long as there is good weather. Please encourage your student to dress appropriately. If the weather does not permit outdoor time, alternative indoor activities will be provided.
