Mission
The mission of the library media program is to teach students and staff members to become effective users of ideas and information in order to reach their God-given potential.

Objectives
• To teach the students information literacy skills in order for them to effectively use ideas and information.
• To support the school’s instructional processes by providing books that expand and support the curriculum.
• To encourage a love and enjoyment of reading by providing a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere in the media center, and an abundance and variety of books.
• To develop student proficiency and confidence in reading by running and supporting Scholastic’s Reading Counts reading incentive program.

Circulation
Students participating in the Reading Counts program may have two books checked out at a time. Other students may have one book checked out at a time.

Books are normally kept for one week. If a student needs to keep a book for a longer period of time, they may renew it for up to three weeks. (Exceptions are made for books that are needed for school assignments.)
 
Students are responsible for all books checked out in their name. Fees for lost books cover replacing the book, librarian time for reordering, and processing costs, and are as follows:

$10 for paperback books
$20 for hardback books

Teachers may check out any of the Media Center resources and keep as long as needed.

Services
K4 through 5th grade classes go to the Media Center as a class on a weekly basis. Teachers also have the flexibility of scheduling additional Media Center time for their classes according to their curriculum needs.
All students may use the Media Center resources during all operating hours with permission from their supervising teacher.

The Media Center has:

· over 10,000 books available for checkout by students and teachers
· 10 computers available for students to take Reading Counts! quizzes
· over 100 videos available to teachers
· numerous reference books and educational journals for teachers

The Media Center has a fully automated catalog and circulation system, using Concourse, a Book Systems product.
