Philosophy of the BCA Interscholastic Athletic Program

We believe an interscholastic athletic program provides a vehicle for the athlete and school to honor Jesus Christ and become more Christ-like. The primary goal of our program is to bring competitive athletics under the Lordship of Jesus Christ by teaching Christian commitment and joyful living through the student’s athletic experiences. At BCA, interscholastic athletics exists to:

  • Teach athletes to glorify God in all athletic endeavors
  • Teach dependence on God
  • Teach thankfulness to God for health, safety, and for the opportunity to serve Him in athletic competition
  • Teach how to win with humility and how to lose with grace
  • Teach how to love our competitors as they are also God’s image-bearers
  • Develop within each athlete the skills necessary to compete successfully and reach for that individual’s God-given potential
  • Develop a strong team spirit and loyalty to the school in the student’s and school community
  • Guide athletes to grow in respect and acceptance of teammates and schoolmates as reflected by their actions
  • Develop within each athlete a commitment to excellence and a strong work ethic in the classroom and in athletics
  • Develop a heart of encouragement to strengthen others
